The community is invited to join a virtual White Ribbon relaunch to help raise awareness for violence prevention programs across Australia.
On Thursday 13 August from 10am–11am, the White Ribbon online relaunch will be hosted by Aligned Leisure in partnership with Cardinia Shire Council and Outlook Vic. The event will feature guest speakers and the announcement of the 2020 Garry McQuillan and Tony Fitzgerald Award recipients. These awards recognise men for their continued efforts in raising awareness and preventing men's violence against women.
In May 2020, Communicare took over White Ribbon, with the vision of creating a "nation that respects women, in which every woman lives in safety, free from all forms of men's abuse."
White Ribbon events are held annually to put the spotlight on men's violence against women and raise critical funds for violence prevention programs.
Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Cr Jeff Springfield said Council was proud to partner with Aligned Leisure and Outlook Vic for this 2020 White Ribbon event.
"While our event may look a little different this year due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, it's wonderful that we're still able to come together for this important event.
"I'm very passionate about working together to create a community that is safe and peaceful, and where we take a united stand against violence. Attitudes and behaviours need to keep changing in our community and we need to ensure that we listen to, and support, those who experience violence," Cr Springfield said.
