Wilful damage charges after offensive material complaints

The Queensland Police Service, Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group, has charged three men in relation to alleged offensive imagery displayed across south-east Queensland.

On Tuesday, January 17, officers executed search warrants at addresses in Toowong, Pimpama and Oxenford with a number of banners, stickers, flyers, computer devices and other items being located.

It is alleged one of the banners seized was displayed on the Pacific Highway at Helensvale in November 2022.

Queensland Police will further allege those arrested are responsible for a number of incidents involving offensive imagery being posted in public areas, causing damage to infrastructure, and sparking community concern.

Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group, Operations Commander, Acting Detective Superintendent Leonie Steyger said these matters are thoroughly investigated and action will always be taken when offences are identified.

"Our primary focus is on keeping the community safe, the public have a right to go about their daily lives without being subjected to highly offensive imagery," Acting Detective Superintendent Leonie Steyger said.

"Those responsible represent the smallest minority of our communities, and my team will continue to disrupt and charge individuals who are motivated by this type of behaviour."

A 21-year-old Toowong man has been charged with two counts of wilful damage and two counts of contravening storage measures and other precautions about access to restricted items.

A 20-year-old Pimpama man has been charged with two counts of wilful damage.

A 42-year-old Oxenford man has been charged with one count of wilful damage and one count of public nuisance.

All three men are expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 28.
