Clarence Nationals MP, Richie Williamson, has welcomed the latest milestone in the $263.8 million Grafton Base Hospital redevelopment.
He said the release of the detailed designs and fly-through animation is another exciting step forward in what is a once-in-a-generation upgrade, and a commitment originally made by the former NSW Nationals Government.
"This redevelopment will deliver modern facilities including a new emergency department, expanded medical imaging services with an MRI suite, additional operating theatres, new inpatient units, and improved access across the campus. These are vital improvements for our community," he said.
Mr Williamson encouraged Clarence Valley residents to take part in upcoming community information sessions at Grafton Shoppingworld or provide feedback online.
"This is our hospital, and I encourage locals to get along to the sessions or have their say online. It's a great opportunity to provide feedback and ensure the design meets the needs of our region now and into the future," he said.
While welcoming progress, Mr Williamson reiterated his strong advocacy for the full fit-out of maternity services as part of this redevelopment – not later.
"The designs include space for maternity services to be relocated in the future, but I remain firm that this needs to happen in sync with the redevelopment – not simply as a shell for another day," Mr Williamson said.
"Just last week I met the Minister for Health to again press the need for additional funding in the next State Budget so the maternity unit is fully fitted out during this rebuild. Our mums, dads, and newborns deserve access to a state-of-the-art maternity service now, not down the track."
Mr Williamson said he would continue to fight for the best outcome for Clarence families.
"This redevelopment is a critical investment in our health system, but it's essential we get it right. I will keep working to ensure that when this project is complete, it delivers the full range of services our growing community deserves," he said.
