Willie Sharpens Knife, Not Balance Sheet

Liberal Tasmania
  • Felix Ellis Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Minister for Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs, Minister for Skills and Training, Member for Braddon
  • After revealing a $300 million blackhole in Labor's Budget on Saturday, Labor's botched budget has had another hole punched in it while knives are sharpened across the State.

    With polling indicating Labor is in for its worst electoral performance since 1903, the knives are out for Winter at the same time as further cuts have been uncovered in Labor's numbers.

    • $70.2 million to deliver the Elective Surgery Four-Year Plan 2025-29 is missing from Labor's costings;
    • $58 million to meet an increase in workers compensation premiums for injured police and emergency service workers is missing from Labor's costings; and
    • Embarrassingly, after making it a centrepiece of his Budget Reply, they've also missed $30 million for Digital Health Transformation.

    Dean Winter forced Tasmanians to an early election under the false premise that he cared about the Budget.

    The past few days have once again proved he is more interested in his own political survival than those of Tasmanians.

    He blew a massive $300 million hole in his own costings on Saturday, and today's $150 million in cuts to health and essential worker support is a sign of things to come.

    The ABC and The Advocate have already pulled apart Winter's so-called 'savings plan'.

    Mr Winter led the charge to vote for increased taxes in Parliament.

    It's clear he wants to raise taxes and savage the Health System.

    And Labor's cuts look likely to extend to the leadership as well as the Health System.

    Labor: they'll make you pay.
