The Morrison Government has welcomed Australia Post's common-sense decision to continue to ship perishable goods across the country.
Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher said many small and family-run businesses rely on this service for their livelihoods.
"While the transportation of perishable goods is a complex issue, today's announcement from Australia Post is a common-sense step towards an outcome allowing businesses across Australia to continue to thrive," Minister Fletcher said.
Assistant Minister for Industry Development Jonno Duniam said the decision is significant for a number of Tasmanian producers.
"The outcome we have secured is a win for Tasmanian businesses, their workers, and the many customers across the nation who love to eat Tassie produce," Assistant Minister Duniam said.
"Australia Post will continue to ship perishable goods, and an industry working forum has been formed to resolve cross-state regulatory issues, with the support of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Bruce Billson.
"I have spoken to Australia Post to ensure Tasmanian producers have a voice and are included in the forum.
"This outcome gives producers the security they need so they can continue to do what they do best, and get their produce to the growing number of people who want it."
