Winchelsea's public electric vehicle (EV) charger is now live, giving locals and visitors another convenient way to stay charged while exploring the Surf Coast.

The 40kW charger, located near the old library building on Willis Street, Winchelsea, provides a valuable addition to the region's growing EV infrastructure network.

Surf Coast Shire Councillor Tony Phelps said the new charger will help support the community's transition to cleaner transport, as well as visitors traveling through the area.

"Our Council Plan makes it clear that we are committed to supporting the community to reduce emissions as part of our Climate and Environmental leadership objective," Tony said.

"As more people choose electric vehicles, providing reliable charging infrastructure is a practical way we can help reduce emissions and support sustainable travel."

The charger offers a usage fee of $0.45 per kilowatt hour and an idle fee of $1.00 per minute.

Funded through the Victorian Government's Destination Charging across Victoria program, the Winchelsea EV charger is one of four new public EV stations being rolled out across the Surf Coast Shire.

The new EV chargers are located at:

  • Anglesea – Community Hub (operational since August 2025)
  • Lorne – Visitor Information Centre (operational since December 2024)
  • Winchelsea – Old Library Building (now operational)
  • Aireys Inlet – Community Hall (will be operational early 2026)
