Wingham Riverside Reserve To Reopen To Vehicles

MidCoast Council
Wingham Riverside Reserve and the nearby Mick Tuck Reserve have been closed since the May 2025 floods which destroyed the access road and car park, boat ramp and pontoon, public toilets and park furniture.
The only remaining structures are in Mick Tuck Reserve and include a shelter, the Mick Tuck memorial seat and the historic Wingham Wharf, which is fenced off for safety.
Although vehicles have not been formally allowed to enter the reserve since the floods, Council is aware that access to the river at this location is important for the Wingham community and that people have continued to drive into the area. On this basis, and after assessing the risks, Council will soon formally reopen part of the reserve to vehicles and signage will be installed to reflect this change in access.
Mick Tuck Reserve will remain closed to vehicles and maintained as a grassed picnic area. The western end of the reserve adjoins private land and has been fenced to confirm the property boundary.
In addition to damage sustained during the May 2025 flood, the reserve was also badly damaged during the March 2021 floods. Because of ongoing flood risk, no new facilities will be built in the reserve.
Reopening vehicle access will make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy the river, especially during summer.
