MidCoast Council is aware of interest within the community about the actions being taken to address Wingham's The Bight Bridge.
Council is still currently waiting on the engineer's report following the bridges damage in the May floods.
In the mean time it is important to clarify that other emergency and reconstruction works are taking priority as the 90 day deadline for Government funding to cover those works is looming.
Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott understood the frustration within the community.
"Unfortunately, the situation with the bridge isn't going to be a quick fix," he said.
"While we are within this 90-day period our crews need to focus on getting through as much of the other emergency and recovery work as possible or our ratepayers will ultimately be left with the bill which is currently sitting at over $230 million and expected to climb.
"The way it works is the government gives us a 90-day period to get through the emergency and recovery work and that money is then reimbursed. After that, unless an extension is granted, any expenses then fall onto council and its ratepayers.
"So while we hear and understand your frustrations with the Bight Bridge situation we need to prioritise the work that can be completed in the shorter term."
Mayor Claire Pontin has requested an extension to the 90 day deadline and Council is still waiting for a reply.
