Winners Breach Gambling Self-Exclusion Rules

The ACMA has found Winners Bookmaking Pty Ltd (trading as Betplay) failed to close a wagering account in a reasonable timeframe for a customer who has registered with BetStop - the National Self-Exclusion Register (NSER).

Under self-exclusion rules, once an individual registers with the NSER, wagering service providers must close that person's account as soon as practicable.

An ACMA investigation found that the customer registered with the NSER on 5 September 2024 and that the individual's betting account remained open for a further 20 days.

The ACMA found that under the circumstances, the account of the customer should reasonably have been closed by 12 September 2024.

Winners Bookmaking has been issued with a formal warning for failing to comply with the national self-exclusion register rules.

If the company breaches these rules again it could lead to further enforcement action, including a financial penalty or Federal Court proceedings.
