The Wirruwana Hub on Shark Bay's Dirk Hartog Island was officially opened today, providing a new visitor experience in the Gascoyne.
The McGowan Government provided a $145,434 Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant to Dirk Hartog Island Distilleries to help build the facility.
The Hub, consisting of a new visitor centre, beachside bar and café, provides visitors with a richer tourism experience on the island.
The project has created seven jobs, facilitated an increase in the number of tours to Dirk Hartog Island, and extended visitor length of stay and spend in the Shark Bay economy.
The Wirruwana Hub is one of 20 projects funded through the REDs program in the Gascoyne region to date, with round four funding opening yesterday.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
"RED Grant projects such as the Wirruwana Hub are generating long lasting benefits for the Gascoyne community, driving business opportunities, economic growth and jobs throughout the region.
"This facility adds a whole new element for visitors to this unique and beautiful part of our state, helping to grow the local economy by creating an asset that can be leveraged by the business community.
"We urge local businesses to look to our RED Grants to get their projects off the ground as part of our commitment to supporting regional economic diversity."
