Witness appeal following fatal crash at Port Melbourne

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a motorcycle crash in Port Melbourne on Sunday (15 July), Victoria Police say.

It is understood two motorcycles were travelling south along the Bolte Bridge about 10pm when both bikes took the exit ramp towards the Burnley Tunnel and one lost control around a bend and crashed into a side barrier about 10pm.

The 32-year old Highett man was ejected from the bike and thrown over the ramp, dying at the scene.

Investigators arrested a 48-year-old Cremorne man on Tuesday evening and executed a search warrant at his home seizing a motorcycle which will be forensically examined.

The man has since been released pending further enquiries.

Detectives have released an image of the motorbike they believe may have been travelling on the Bolte Bridge at the same time of the crash.

CCTV footage of the bikes travelling prior to the crash has also been released.

Detective Inspector Stuart McGregor states "We are wanting to speak to anyone who was on the Tullamarine Freeway and Bolte Bridge travelling towards the Westgate Freeway and Burnley Tunnel between 9.40pm and 10.10pm and saw the two motorcycles riding dangerously"

Investigators are also seeking anyone who was travelling through the Burnely tunnel and observed the black Honda travelling at high speed.

Anyone with dash cam footage or any information regarding the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
