Witness appeal for wrong way driver on Hume Highway

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for dash cam footage and witnesses after a vehicle allegedly drove the wrong way along the Hume Freeway between Wallan and Craigieburn this morning.

Police attempted to speak to the occupants of a dual cab ute with no rear tail lights at a service station on High Street in Wallan about 3.55am.

The vehicle has allegedly fled and police following for a short period before ceasing the pursuit for safety reasons.

Police received reports of a vehicle acting suspiciously on Bowral Loop in Craigieburn and located the ute.

The three occupants allegedly fled, with police arresting a 17-year-old Craigieburn boy at the scene.

He was charged with theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, going equipped to steal and commit indictable offence while on bail and will appear before a bail justice.

Police are still searching for the driver and second passenger of the vehicle.
