Witnesses, dashcam sought after man dies when hit at Fairfield

Police have launched an investigation after a man died when he was hit while crossing a street at Fairfield this morning.

Emergency services were called to Sackville Street shortly before 6am (Monday 26 September 2022), after a man was seen lying injured on the footpath.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man for critical head injuries; however, he died at the scene.

A crime scene has been established with officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU), initiating inquiries into how the man came to be injured.

Initial inquiries indicate the man – believed to be in his 50s – was crossing the road when he was struck by a southbound vehicle about 5.46am, which didn't stop.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident, or who may have driven along Sackville Street around 5.45am-5.50am – including those with dashcam – to contact the Crash Investigation Unit via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
