Witnesses sought over child approach near Newcastle, NSW

Police are appealing for public assistance following a child approach near Newcastle yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 12.40pm (Thursday 19 July 2018), a 15-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl were walking on Clyde Street, near Girling Street, at Hamilton North, when a white sedan, with black and white numberplates, stopped near them.

The passenger, a man, waved to the girls and told them to get in the vehicle.

The girls ran away and notified officers from Newcastle City Police District, who commenced an investigation.

Investigators wish to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He has been described as having a dark complexion, about 173cm tall, aged in his early 40s, short brown hair with a crewcut style, unshaven, and with a solid build.

The man was last seen wearing navy blue jeans and a blue shirt with red, yellow and black spotted colours.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
