Woman, 71, assaulted; man charged in Parramatta

A man has been charged and a 71-year-old woman remains in hospital following an assault at a railway station in Sydney’s west, NSW Police say.

About 9am on Tuesday 12 June 2018, police will allege a man was pushing his suitcase into a 71-year-old woman while they were getting ready to exit a bus at Parramatta Railway Station.

When the woman told him to stop, the man allegedly assaulted her; causing her to fall onto the concrete footpath.

She was taken to Westmead Hospital, suffering facial and hip injuries. She remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

About 12.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 19 June 2018), police arrested a 52-year-old man at a shopping centre in Church Street, Parramatta.

He was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

The man was refused bail and appeared before Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 20 June 2018) where he was refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 27 June 2018.
