Woman arrested following protest in Newcastle

A woman has been arrested after securing herself to a train near Mayfield earlier today, NSW Police say.

About 6.45am (Friday 7 September 2018), police were called to a rail corridor at Sandgate after receiving information a woman had secured herself to the front of a stationary locomotive during protest activity.

Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit attended and released the woman.

The 18-year-old was uninjured during the incident and arrested at the scene.

She was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with enter enclosed lands, obstruct a railway, and not to interfere with train.

The woman was granted conditional bail and is expected to appear in Newcastle Local Court on 4 October 2018.
