Woman bail refused after attempted bag snatch at Bathurst

A woman will reappear before court today after allegedly assaulting another woman while attempting to steal her purse in the state's Central Tablelands.

About 9.30am yesterday (Wednesday 20 November 2019), the 74-year-old entered a café on George Street at Bathurst when she was approached by a woman unknown to her.

It is alleged the 24-year-old woman struck the older woman to the upper left arm and attempted to steal her purse, before leaving empty-handed.

Acting on information provided, officers attached to Chifley Police District attended and arrested the 24-year-old on Howick Street.

She was taken to Bathurst Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob.

The woman has been refused bail and appeared before Bathurst Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 20 November 2019).

She was remanded in custody to reappear before the same court today (Thursday 21 November 2019).

The older woman received bruising as a result of the incident.
