A woman has been charged after allegedly assaulting an off-duty police officer in Sydney's west yesterday.
About 4.40pm (Tuesday 9 December 2025), police were called to the carpark of a shopping centre in Bass Hill, following reports four child had been left in a car.
Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command attended and were told four children – aged between seven and 11 – had been left unattended in the vehicle.
An off-duty sergeant was in attendance and removed the children from the vehicle, which was unlocked.
A short time later, a 50-year-old woman – who police will allege was the car's owner – approached.
When the sergeant attempted to speak with the woman, she allegedly became aggressive and assaulted the officer, before returning the children in the vehicle and driving from the scene.
Following inquiries, police attended a house in Condell Park, where they arrested a 50-year-old woman.
She was taken to Bankstown Police Station where she was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and leave child/young person in motor vehicle causing emotional distress.
She is due to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 15 January 2025.
