Woman Charged for Offensive Symbols in Sydenham

A woman is before the courts after an alleged offensive symbol was displayed in a public place in Sydney's Inner West.

Just after 1pm yesterday (Friday 27 March 2026), police were called to Burrows Avenue, Sydenham, following reports an offensive symbol had been drawn on a poster.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident.

About 1.50pm the same day (Friday 27 March 2026), police arrested a 48-year-old woman on Illawarra Road, Marrickville.

After searching the woman, police allegedly located a knife, an electronic stun device, and offensive tattoos were also identified.

She was taken to Newtown Police Station where she was charged with two counts of knowingly display by public act Nazi symbol without excuse, two counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and armed with intent.

The woman was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 yesterday (Saturday 28 March 2026), where she was formally granted conditional bail to appear before Newtown Local Court on Tuesday 31 March 2026.

Inquiries are ongoing.
