Woman Charged Over Aggravated Newcastle Break-In: NSW Police

A woman has been charged following an investigation into an alleged break and enter in Newcastle this week.

About 10.30pm on Wednesday 31 January 2024, emergency services were called to a home on Denison Street, Hamilton, following reports an elderly woman had been assaulted in a break and enter.

At the scene, police were told that the 92-year-old woman was in a bedroom, when a woman allegedly entered through a window and pushed the elderly woman, causing her to fall.

The younger woman allegedly stole cash, purses and several cards before fleeing the property.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman for minor cuts and a shoulder injury.

Following extensive inquiries by Newcastle City Police, a 46-year-old woman was arrested at Waratah Police Station about 5.15pm yesterday (Thursday 1 February 2024).

She has since been charged with aggravated break and enter with intent, and breach of bail.

She was refused bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 2 February 2024).
