Woman dies after being hit by 4WD at St Leonards, NSW

A woman has died after being hit by a 4WD as she crossed the road at St Leonards, NSW Police say.

Police believe the 77-year-old woman, from North Sydney, was crossing Herbert Street on a green signal shortly after 11am (Friday 22 December 2017), when she was struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser turning left off the Pacific Highway.

She was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with head injuries.

The driver of the 4WD, a 43-year-old woman from Concord, was arrested at the scene and taken to RNS Hospital for mandatory tests.

She was then taken to North Sydney Police Station where she was interviewed and charged with

• Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, and

• Negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Manly Local Court on Thursday 18 January 2018.

Her licence was suspended immediately.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit have now been advised the injured woman died about 8pm (Friday 22 December 2017).

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
