Woman dies after house fire at Wollongong

A woman has died after being found unconscious inside her burning home at Fairy Meadow earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to a home at Matthew Street, Fairy Meadow, just after 2am Wednesday (19 May 2021), following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and found a woman and her three grandchildren had escaped the building uninjured; however, a 33-year-old woman was unaccounted for.

Firefighters entered the home and found the woman in a bedroom. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition; officers from Wollongong Police District were advised last night that she had died.

Inquiries are continuing into the cause of the blaze.
