Woman dies after two-vehicle crash near Yamba

A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash in the state's north yesterday.

About 1.20pm (Tuesday 14 September 2021), emergency services were called to Yamba Road, Palmers Island, near Yamba, after reports a Mazda Sedan and a Toyota RAV 4 had collided.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and found the driver and sole occupant of the Mazda – a 19-year-old woman – trapped in the vehicle.

She was treated by a doctor, who had stopped to render assistance, before being extracted from the vehicle by emergency services.

The woman was airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition with injuries to her head, chest, back and pelvis. About 6.30am today (Wednesday 15 September 2021), the woman died as a result of her injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota – a 79-year-old woman – was uninjured.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
