A woman has died, and a driver has been arrested following a two-vehicle crash near Greta this morning.
About 8.50am (Monday 20 July 2026), emergency services were called to the New England Highway at Harpers Hill, following reports of a crash.
At the scene, police were told a sedan and utility had crashed head on, blocking both directions of traffic.
A female driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, was unable to be revived. She is yet to be formally identified.
The driver of the other vehicle, believed to be a 21-year-old man, allegedly left the scene on foot.
The man was arrested nearby a short time later and taken to the John Hunter Hospital for assessment and mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established by officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District.
The scene will be forensically examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.
