Woman dies in hospital following crash in Punchbowl

A woman injured in a collision at Punchbowl this morning has died in hospital, NSW Police say.

Just before 11am today, emergency services were called to Warwick Street, Punchbowl, following reports a Mitsubishi EVO and a Honda CRV had collided.

The driver of the white Mitsubishi fled the scene on foot while his female passenger was taken to Liverpool Hospital with critical injuries. She died about 6.10pm.

The 45-year-old female driver of the other car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit and Bankstown Local Area Command have conducted extensive inquiries throughout the day but have not been able to locate the driver of the Mitsubishi, which was bearing stolen number plates at the time of the crash.

They have also been trying to determine the identity of the now deceased woman, but at this stage her identity remains unknown.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone who might know her identity to come forward.

Police would also like to hear from any person who witnessed the crash or has information about it to contact them.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
