Woman drowns while kayaking near Gloucester, NSW

A woman has died after being pulled from the water at a river near Gloucester today, NSW Police say.

About 12.50pm (Sunday 4 February 2018), emergency services were called to the Barrington River at Rawdon Vale, about 40km from Gloucester.

Police have been told the woman, who had been kayaking, was walking through the water with her kayak when she was swept under the water by rapids.

The woman was stuck under a log for a short time.

Family members attempted to assist the 54-year-old woman, but she died at the scene.

Police from Manning/Great Lakes Police District have launched an investigation and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
