Woman in critical condition after house fire at Wollongong

Emergency services remain at the scene of a house fire at Wollongong.

Just after 2am today (Wednesday 19 May 2021), emergency services were called to a home at Matthew Street, Fairy Meadow, following reports of a house fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and evacuated a 33-year-old woman from the home, before extinguishing the blaze.

She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition.

Four other occupants of the home – a woman and three children - managed to evacuate the home before emergency services arrived and were not injured.

Officers from Wollongong Police District remain at the scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
