Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information after a woman was found deceased in Tarneit this morning.
A passerby located the woman's body on Leakes Road at the intersection of Derrimut Road just before 6am.
At this stage it is believed the yet-to-be identified woman has been struck by a vehicle, which left the scene.
Detectives are appealing to motorists who were travelling during this time on Leakes Road and Derrimut Road to check their dashcams.
Motorists may have inadvertently captured the woman as she was walking in the area, or the vehicle involved.
Detectives from MCIU will be on scene for most of today while they process the scene.
Anyone with any information, or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
