Investigations are underway after a woman’s body was found on rocks below a lookout near Lennox Head this afternoon, NSW Police say.
Police were alerted to the body at the base of the Pat Morton Lookout on the Coast Road about 4.50pm (Friday 30 March 2018).
Officers from Richmond Police District climbed to the base of the lookout; however, fading light and a rising tide meant the body could not be retrieved.
The scene will remain under police guard overnight, and the retrieval operation will resume tomorrow morning (Saturday 31 March 2018).
The woman remains unidentified at this time, and the circumstances of how she came to be at the base of the lookout are still to be determined.
A post mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to determine the cause of death.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call Ballina Police or Crime Stoppers.
