Woman seriously assaulted at Toowong

Brisbane detectives have charged a man with a number of serious offences including acts intended to maim (domestic violence) and strangulation (domestic violence) following the alleged serious assault of a woman in a Toowong park yesterday (June 14), Queensland Police say.

Police will allege the pair became involved in an argument around 6pm during which time the woman was physically assaulted, including punched several times about the head and face and strangled.

The 18-year-old woman managed to struggle free and flag down a passing motorist.

She received non-life threatening injuries including severe facial swelling, abrasions and bruising.

A 32-year-old Indooroopilly man appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning and has been remanded in custody to re-appear in Court on the above charges as well as contravening a domestic violence order and wilful damage.

Investigations are on-going with detectives appealing for witnesses to the alleged assault.

The small park is located near the Royal Exchange Hotel, towards the railway tracks and near the corner of Benson Street and McDonnell Terrace, Toowong.
