Woman sexually assaulted on tram at Richmond

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance after a woman was sexually assaulted on a route 75 tram last month, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told the victim, a 38-year-old Forest Hill woman, was travelling on a Vermont South tram when the incident happened about 10pm on Tuesday 14 February.

The victim told investigators that as she travelled along Bridge Road in Richmond a man approached her and sexually assaulted her.

There were several other passengers on the tram at the time of the incident.

After the assault, the man got off the tram near the intersection with Lennox Street and walked off towards Cameron Street.

Police have released a computer generated image of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who has information about the incident or the man’s identity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
