The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is getting on with the job of delivering our South East Traffic Solution commitment to improve safety and travel times for commuters and visitors on the Tasman and Arthur Highways in the state’s south.
Construction on the first of the South East Traffic Solution projects will start on Monday with work beginning on the Arthur Highway overtaking lane.
The new southeast-bound overtaking lane on the uphill section of the Arthur Highway east of Iron Creek, along with turn lanes at Valleyfield Road and Schofield Drive, U-turn facilities and safer bus stops.
These improvements will combat congestion resulting from strong residential growth in Sorell and the southern beaches area, as well as the growing number of visitors travelling to the Tasman Peninsula.
Providing a safer opportunity for overtaking will reduce delays and frustrations experienced by drivers due to slower-moving traffic.
Work is expected to be completed in March 2020.
A number of other projects are progressing as part of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s South East Traffic Solution, including:
- Midway Point Intersection Solution;
- Sorell Southern Bypass;
- Duplication of the Tasman Highway between Hobart Airport and Midway Point causeway;
- Hobart Airport Interchange Upgrade; and
- Planning for duplication of Tasman Highway causeways and McGees Bridge between the Airport and Sorell.
