Works begin at East Derwent Primary School

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

Construction works to deliver upgrades at East Derwent Primary School are now underway.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said the $750,000 classroom upgrade will be completed in 2024.

"The works will provide a new contemporary learning area outside existing classrooms and all-weather access to two existing internal linkways," Minister Jaensch said.

"Local contractor Haven Built is helping to deliver the project."

East Derwent Primary School also recently benefited from the redevelopment of an existing outdoor play area to incorporate new nature-based play features, including dedicated areas that can be used to facilitate group learning activities.

"These works, valued at $92,000, were part of the Rockliff Liberal Government's $10 million Outdoor Learning Program, which is delivering a total of 145 projects across the State, with 100 of these already completed, and the remaining 45 currently in progress," Minister Jaensch said.

"Our Government's investment in education infrastructure supports our plans to provide students with contemporary learning spaces while also strengthening the economy and creating jobs.

"The classroom upgrade at East Derwent Primary School is part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government's $10 million Contemporary Classrooms Program, which will see classroom upgrades completed at 12 Tasmanian Government schools."
