This week marks World Haemochromatosis Week 2024.
Haemochromatosis is a genetic disorder that causes the body to store too much iron.
Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said that raising awareness about this condition is important.
"Haemochromatosis is the most common genetic disorder in Australia, affecting around one in 200 people," Minister Barnett said.
"This week, I encourage Tasmanians to wear red to show their support and to potentially kickstart a conversation about the condition.
"By raising awareness, we can encourage Tasmanians to be aware of the signs and to test early, which in turn allows for the condition to be treated effectively.
"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we are making healthcare more accessible – meaning Tasmanians with haemochromatosis can get the assistance they need."
