Wounding charge, Southport

Gold Coast detectives have charged a man with wounding following an altercation in Southport yesterday (February 8).

It will be alleged that a verbal altercation occurred between two men, aged 18 and 31 and who were not known to each other, in Scarborough Street at around 5.10pm, before one of the men moved away.

A short time later he returned with police alleging a 31-year-old Pimpama man then sustained a stab wound to his back.

He was treated by ambulance officers and transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.

An 18-year-old Macleay Island man was arrested by police soon after and charged with wounding, going armed so as to cause fear, unlawful possession of a knife in a public place and enter premises and commit an indictable offence.

He has been denied police bail and remains in custody to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court this morning (February 8).
