Wounding charge in Fortitude Valley, QLD

Police have charged a man after a woman was assaulted in Fortitude Valley this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

Shortly before 12.20pm, a woman was sitting down at a bus stop on Wickham Street when she was approached by a man.

It will be alleged that the man leaned over the woman and cut her throat with a piece of glass before fleeing the scene on foot.

Officer patrolling then chased the man down Overells Lane where he was taken into custody.

The woman sustained a small wound to her neck and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 23-year-old Fortitude Valley man has been charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
