Writing Australia Welcomes NSW Literature Strategy Supporting Writers From Regional Classrooms To World

Creative Australia

Stories Matter: A Writing and Literature Strategy for NSW is the state's first ever dedicated literature and writing strategy.

Writing Australia is pleased to collaborate with the NSW Government on three key initiatives, connecting writers with schools and communities and promoting opportunities for writers in international markets.

Director of Writing Australia, Wenona Byrne, said:

"Writing and reading are lifelong skills; connecting learning, creativity and community. We welcome this strategy, and its important recognition of the vital role writers and books play in our culture and our lives. Through initiatives like these, we can extend the reach of Australian stories from classrooms and libraries to national and international stages."

An investment of $225,000 from Create NSW in Writing Australia programs will support:

  • LitUp: connecting authors and illustrators with regional schools and communities to inspire the next generation of readers and creators.
  • International Market Development programs: promoting NSW writers and illustrators in key international markets.
  • International touring, translation and publication: creating new pathways for NSW stories to reach global audiences.

The LitUp Pilot is supported by Creative Australia and the Copyright Agency and delivered by Australia Reads.
