The number of people displaced inside Yemen has passed 104,796, across 17,461 households, according to the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) released today. Fighting along the West Coast shows no sign of easing.
In Djibouti, the number of people who have crossed from Yemen reached 2,776, according to latest data obtained. IOM continues to respond with immediate services, including 1500 hot meals, twice a day.
"Yemen is a country torn by war, displacement, poverty, and climate impacts," said Amy Pope, IOM Director General. "Overlooking the suffering of civilians is not acceptable as needs continue to rise."
Aid workers say the pace of displacement is outstripping their ability to track it in real time. Families are moving under fire, often at night. Many carry little more than what they can hold.
Taiz remains the epicentre, with over 63,000 people displaced across its districts, led by Jabal Habashi (21,018), Al Ma'afer (12,642) and Ash Shamayatayn (8,250). Lahj follows with nearly 26,400 displaced, driven largely by Al Madaribah Wa Al Aarah district, where almost 19,000 people have fled. Aden has recorded over 3,500 displaced, while Al Abyan, Hadramawt and Ma'rib are also seeing rising numbers as fighting spreads. In total, 104,796 people across 17,461 households have now been displaced.
In response to escalating needs, IOM is assisting newly displaced families through Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM), Shelter and Non-Food Item (NFI), and protection assistance. IOM is also monitoring population movements through DTM, generating real-time data to support the country-wide response. IOM currently operates in Aden, Ma'rib, Lahj and South Taiz, with capacity to deploy teams to accessible areas as needed.
Since the start of the conflict, IOM's RRM and Cash-Based Interventions (CBI) team has registered and assisted 1,159 households with in-kind assistance. Emergency Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) distributions are ongoing despite increasingly constrained access.
On shelter, IOM is supporting 460 families with NFI assistance and 449 households with shelter support. As protection risks grow for the most vulnerable, including IDPs and migrants, IOM has provided protection services to 758 people in Ma'rib, Aden and Lahj.
IOM also manages the WASH Cluster emergency pipeline, with approximately 8,000 pre-positioned WASH kits in Aden and Ma'rib, ready for deployment within 72 hours.
IOM co-leads Yemen's Refugees and Migrants Multi-Sector (RMMS) response and the RRM at national level. It manages the Humanitarian Hub in Ma'rib, hosting eight UN agencies, and co-leads the Shelter, Land and Site Management Cluster and the WASH Cluster, serving as SLSC Area of Responsibility lead in Aden and co-chair of the Yemen Cash and Markets Working Group.
IOM is calling on donors to act now to fund the response before more families are forced from their homes with nothing left to lose.
The situation remains volatile, with further displacement expected in the coming days. IOM will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as they become available.
