Yeoval, Cumnock Get Dual Check Valve Upgrades

Cabonne Council is taking the next step in delivering potable water to Cumnock and Yeoval, with the installation of dual check valves at every property in both towns. The works, carried out by a licensed contractor, are scheduled to begin later this week or early next week.

Residents will be notified by the contractor at least 24 hours before work begins on their property. The installation of dual check valves is a crucial safety measure, preventing potentially contaminated water from flowing back into the council's water mains due to existing cross connections, such as rainwater tanks. This upgrade is part of the broader process to bring the local water supply up to potable standards.

Key details for residents:

  • Installations will be performed by a licensed plumber, who will require access to the water meter.
  • Work will take place during normal business hours.
  • Water supply may be interrupted for up to two hours, though most outages will be shorter.
  • Some temporary water discoloration may occur after installation.
  • There is no cost to residents for the installation, and no ongoing maintenance is required for the valves.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
