Yinnar RV Stop officially opened

The opening of the new free RV (Recreational Vehicle) Stop at Yinnar today (Friday) will help to encourage more visitors to stop and spend money in the town and Latrobe City.

The stop was officially opened today by the Yinnar and District Community Association's (YDCA) Kevin Young in Main Street, Yinnar.

The stop is conveniently located behind the existing bus stop and within easy access of Yinnar's businesses and facilities.

The project has been in the making for several years and is the first community run, free RV stop in Latrobe City.

The open site will allow visitors with self-contained caravans and motorhomes to stay for up to 48 hours. Vans must have their own shower, toilet and water supply. There are 8 sites available.

The YDCA hopes to install a dump point at the site sometime in the future.

"This RV stop will help entice even more visitors to Latrobe City. Council hopes that by providing people who wish to camp for free somewhere to stay for a weekend, we can attract tourists who would otherwise have driven through Latrobe City," Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said.

"We hope these visitors will stay in the area for a few days, explore our great city and spend dollars in the local towns.

"Council thanks those who have supported and initiated the RV Stop, particularly the Yinnar and District Community Association who have worked tirelessly to make this a reality."

Cr Gibson said Council has been welcoming more tourists to the City recently, with most coming from Melbourne, and wishing to stay in the area and explore outdoor attractions.

"We have seen an increase in people staying in Latrobe City for a few days for their first time and they are asking about natural attractions such as Morwell National Park, Tarra Bulga, Morwell River Falls Reserve, Lake Narracan and the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail," she said.
