Kingston Council is calling on the community to help shape a new Waste Strategy that will guide how we manage waste and resources over the next five years.
With Victoria aiming to divert 80% of waste from landfill by 2030, and Kingston's population continuing to grow, Council is seeking community input to ensure our approach is innovative, sustainable, and practical for our local households and businesses.
Mayor Cr Georgina Oxley said community voices will be critical in creating a strategy that works for Kingston now and into the future.
"Waste is something that affects everyone, every week. We want to make sure our new strategy reflects the needs and ideas of our community, while also meeting the state's ambitious waste targets," Cr Oxley said.
"This is a chance for residents to share their thoughts and help us plan how Kingston manages waste in smarter, more sustainable ways."
Community feedback will help shape the strategy's targets, actions, and timelines.
At this stage, there are no proposed changes to standard kerbside bin sizes or collection frequencies for garbage, recycling, and food and garden bins. However, the Victorian Government has set a goal for mandatory separation of glass by 2027, and food and garden waste by 2030.
