Instrument flight procedures have been around for many years. As they've become more complex, there's now a need for one clear document that explains and provides guidance on accepted industry procedures.
The purpose of this AC is to:
- provide information on the use of instrument flight procedures in Australia
- explain the reasons for and background to industry practices for instrument flight
- clarify safety precautions to be used with instrument flight procedures.
The draft AC seeks to provide guidance and clarity on operational information for instrument flight procedures including:
- background to IFR flight
- airspace and ground infrastructure requirements
- instrument approach procedures
- non-precision approaches (NPAs)
- approach procedures with vertical guidance (APVs)
- precision approach procedures (PAs)
- procedure entry, holding and noise abatement procedures
- precision runway monitor (PRM) instrument approach procedures
- helicopter procedures.
