Young environmental leaders to be recognised for Landcare Award

Friday, 27 August 2021: Nominations are open for the 2021 State and Territory Steadfast Young Landcare Leadership Award that acknowledges acknowledges an individual or a youth group between the ages of 15 - 35 years who promote excellence in landcare through on-ground projects and/or awareness raising activities.

Nominations are open to an individual or youth group who can demonstrate their capacity to lead and encourage the wider community to engage and participate in managing the environment and natural resources in their local area.
State and Territory winners of the Steadfast Young Landcare Leadership Award will automatically become finalists in the 2022 National Landcare Awards to be held later next year.
Austcover, part of the Steadfast Group was previously naming rights sponsor. In order to show its national support of Landcare, Steadfast Group, Australasia's largest general insurance broker network and largest group of underwriting agencies will now be the lead sponsor of the awards.

Dhani Gilbert is the recent recipient of the 2021 National Young Landcare Leadership Award. She is a remarkable and proud young Wiradjuri woman from Ngunnawal country. She has a solid cultural education and has grown up involved in Caring for Country practices inclusive of seed harvesting, cultural burning, weed eradication work and native vegetation restoration.
A second year university student studying a double degree at the Australian National University and a graduate certificate at Charles Sturt University, Dhani is passionate about pursuing a career in Environmental Science Communications & Species Recovery.
She has pursued work and study experience opportunities in these fields with the: ANU College Biodiversity course; work experience with Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve wildlife team; and Mulligans Flat ecology team.
In 2018, Dhani joined the team at the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust as a casual Community Education Outreach Officer at Mulligans Flat. Ultimately, Dhani empowers other young people to participate widely in their community, whilst also being a part of positive social change in educational spaces, cultural education and in ecological recovery actions here in the ACT.
