Currently-serving Navy, Army or Air Force personnel are being encouraged to step up and step in to the world of combat control.
Air Force's No. 4 Squadron (4SQN) is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from full-time and Reserve personnel to join the world of integration, synchronisation and control of elements of air and space power at the tactical level, as a Combat Controller or Combat Control Officer.
The Combat Control capability provides air-to-surface integration specialists to ground units across a range of mission profiles from uncertain to high threat environments.
4SQN Flight Commander, SQNLDR M highlights the unit's multi-disciplinary and highly skilled workforce, and the standard of physical and mental performance required in Combat Control.
"Combat Control's strength originates from the diversity of backgrounds of its personnel, and we are encouraging members of all musterings, specialisations and Services to apply for the current EOI," SQNLDR M said.
"Our personnel operate with a high degree of autonomy for decision-making founded on maturity and sound judgement when under significant environmental and physical stress, so it's imperative that selection standards are high to ensure we recruit the best people for the job."
The opportunity for Combat Controllers to operate independently with other units or in small, discrete teams requires specially selected individuals that demonstrate a high degree of resolve and professionalism which is rewarded with excellent training and job satisfaction.
Upon selection, about 18 months of professional development and courses are invested into each new Combat Control team member, including Special Forces preparation and selection, and specialised skills training.
The road to becoming successful as a member of the Combat Control team is both a physically and mentally demanding one. All applicants must be able to achieve and maintain a high standard of physical fitness to complete the many hurdles required to be selected and remain injury free.
