Nominations for the 2021 Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Awards are now open. The awards recognise young people aged between 12 and 25 who have exemplified and demonstrated cooperation, resilience, responsibility, kindness and passion.
Warrnambool Mayor Cr Vicki Jellie said that the awards are an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the talents and the strengths of the region's young people after a challenging year.
"COVID-19 had an impact on everyone, but young people were hit especially hard," she said.
"On top of months of remote learning, young people faced the cancellation of sport and other activities, reduced social connections and the impact on the hospitality industry which disproportionately affect young people.
"While 2020 was a difficult year in so many ways, young people are the masters of taking lemons and turning them into lemonade.
"We are home to some very talented, hard-working and community-minded young people who deserve to have the spotlight shone on everything wonderful that they have achieved."
The 2021 Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Awards will be held on Sunday July 25.
Warrnambool and Moyne are also partnering on the 2021 Youth Showcase which involves a series of youth art and music events in the lead-up to the awards.
Moyne Shire Council Mayor, Cr Daniel Meade said that the Youth Showcase provides a great opportunity to highlight young local artists.
"Moyne Shire and Warrnambool are home to some incredibly talented and passionate young artists," said Cr Meade.
"I urge everyone to get behind our region's young people, nominate them for an award and give them the recognition they deserve."
"These events will provide a great opportunity for the community to show their support and celebrate the achievements of our rising stars."
