The Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) is a horizontal Government of Canada initiative delivered in collaboration with 12 federal departments, agencies and Crown corporations, including Employment and Social Development Canada. Through the YESS, the Government of Canada helps young people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to make a successful transition into the labour market. Employment and Social Development Canada's YESS program provides opportunities and supports, such as mentorship, access to computers and access to mental health supports, all aimed at helping youth who face barriers to enter the labour market.

These programs will contribute to the success of participants as they enter the workforce, providing an introduction to the sector that includes a clear understanding of the expectations of customers and employers.

The program objectives are to help youth overcome barriers to employment and develop a broad range of skills and knowledge in order to participate in the current and future labour market, as well as to promote education and skills as being key to labour market participation.

Student Work Placement Program
The Student Work Placement Program supports partnerships between industry and post-secondary education institutions to create quality work-integrated learning opportunities for post-secondary students so that they can develop the work-ready skills that are required to secure meaningful employment upon graduation. The Student Work Placement Program has agreements in place with 18 funding recipients to provide post-secondary students across Canada with paid work experience related to their field of study.
