Youth events mark rebirth of Station

Horsham’s new home of youth services The Station is celebrating its refurbishment with two drawcard events.

The former Nexus building in Pynsent Street has undergone renovations and has been renamed The Station.

Pandemic restrictions have limited the building’s use across the past 12 months but this Friday and Saturday, The Station will welcome up to 120 people for retro gaming and hoodie designing events.

The gaming event, Level Up, runs from 4pm to 9pm Friday with food and drinks provided. The Design Your Own Hoodie Workshop is from 11am to 4pm Saturday.

Horsham Rural City Council Youth Services Planning and Engagement Officer Louise Barnett said both events were funded via the Victorian Government’s 2021 Youth Week Grants and were free for participants.

“These events provide social connection for our region’s youth who have had less gatherings to attend over the past 15 months,” Ms Barnett said.

“It’s so wonderful to have young people enjoying COVID safe events again,” she said.

Ms Barnett said The Design Your Own Hoodie Workshop was the brainchild of local teenagers.

“The Youth Council actually came up with the idea of the hoodie event. They wanted to learn new design skills and see how printing equipment works.”
