Youth remanded after court incident

A 16 year old female youth has been remanded in custody following an incident at the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

The youth was on bail and attending a court appearance when she allegedly assaulted three people, including a Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management prosecutor, a youth justice worker and a security guard.

She also allegedly verbally abused the presiding Magistrate.

Police have now charged the youth with common assault and assault a public officer.

"This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable. For an incident of this nature to occur within the court precinct and for alleged assaults on people who are just at work trying to do their jobs is extremely concerning," Commander Jason Elmer said.

The youth was remanded in custody to reappear via video link later this month.
