Youth to Shape Georges River's Future Via Mapping

Georges River Council

Georges River Council has launched a new Youth Mapping Exercise that gives young people (aged 12-24) a direct role in shaping the future of their community.

Co-designed with Council's Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), the Youth Mapping Exercise is an interactive digital tool designed to capture the experiences, priorities and ideas of local young people.

The project invites young people to take part using an online map on Council's Your Say platform. Participants can drop pins, share feedback, and highlight places they value, areas for improvement, and issues that matter to them.

The exercise captures feedback across a range of topics, including:

  • Public safety.

  • Health and wellbeing.

  • Transport.

  • Places to socialise.

  • Education and employment opportunities.

  • Active spaces.

  • Green spaces.

  • Local services.

Council values the input of children and young people and is committed to protecting their privacy. Participants are reminded not to include photos, names or any details that could identify a child or young person. Any content that does not meet these requirements will be removed.

The Youth Mapping Exercise will build a valuable evidence base that helps place young people are at the centre of future decision making. This database will inform planning, advocacy, programming and funding considerations.

The launch builds on Council's ongoing investment in youth engagement. This includes the recent success of GRYFest 2026, which saw hundreds of young people participate in Youth Week celebrations across the area.

The strong turnout highlights the value of creating opportunities for young people to connect, learn and contribute to their community.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said the exercise reflects Council's commitment to meaningful youth participation.

"Young people are an essential part of our community, and their insights help shape a stronger, more inclusive future for Georges River.

"This project gives young people a direct and accessible way to share their perspectives and ensures their voices are included in the decisions we make."

"I encourage all young people to get involved."
