Youths charged after Burwood bus driver assault

Five teenagers have been charged after a bus driver was assaulted in Burwood on Friday.

A group of youths allegedly attempted to rob several passengers before the driver intervened about 7.30pm.

He was struck with a glass bottle and fell to the ground where the assault continued.

The driver sustained facial injuries and was taken to hospital but has since been released.

Eastern Region Division 1 Crime Team and Whitehorse and Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives jointly investigated the incident which resulted in today's arrests.

The youths, four males and a female aged between 14-16, have all been charged with affray, assault and other related offences.

Four of the teens have been remanded to appear at a children's court and one bailed to appear at court at a later date.
